Brancusi

Where: Neue Nationalgalerie | Potsdamer Str. 50, 10785 Tiergarten | Map
The Centre Pompidou in Paris is undergoing some renovations, but that opened the door for the first solo exhibition by Constantin Brâncuși to make an appearance in Berlin. Feartuing over 150 works, this is the first comprehensive retrospective of the artist's work in Germany in 50+ years. The highlight here is a partial reconstruction of Brâncuși's studio, shown for the first time outside of Paris.

Peter Hujar & Liz Deschenes: 'Persistence of Vision'

Starting tonight, Persistence of Vision explores the works of Peter Hujar and Liz Deschenes. Focusing on New York City between the Stonewall uprising of 1969 and the onset of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, Peter Hujar captures a pivotal moment in history. Interspersed between Hujar’s black and white photographs, Deschenes displays sculptures and non-representational photographic works that invite viewers to pause, slow down and consider Hujar’s work in a new light.

Dancae: 'Modalities of Me'
When: March 19-22 & 27-29
Where: Monopol | Provinzstraße 40-44, 13409 Reinickendorf | Map
Dancae returns for two more weekends of performances at Monopol. ‘Modalties of Me’ is a modern ballet set to electronic music, exploring how modern love is shaped and sometimes distorted by our environment. This is all set against the gorgeous light installation by Swiss-based Encor Studios. (As seen on my TikTok from last year.)

Group Show: ‘Seeing Words, Reading Images’

The latest exhibition at PalaisPopulaire, ‘Seeing Words, Reading Images’, explores the significance of written art as both a means of communication and the visual and textual possibilities of storytelling.

Aida Shirazi: 'The Third Room'
When: March 19, 20 & 21, 20:00
Where: Callie’s | Lindower Straße 20, 13347 Wedding | Map
Callie’s opens up for the third round of The Third Room, this time featuring Iranian-American composer and electronic musician Aida Shirazi. For each event, Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist Rey Khatami also joins in, bringing performance, storytelling, and installation elements rooted in lived experience, memory, and socio-political themes.

Π41.2 by Pi Electronics

Just after Pi Day, Pi Electronics presents Π41.2 for the final event in this collective’s series at Saule. This one features Headless Horseman, who is also featured on the label’s forthcoming compilation, debuting a new live set. 3.14, Hurtado and Devika round out the evening of experimental, hypnotic techno.

Voices From The Lake

This Saturday, Zenner opens up for a new season of live concerts from the revered duo Voices From The Lake (Donato Dozzy & Neel). The first in a series of live performances at Zenner celebrates the long-awaited release of II. Voices From The Lake began as a one-off live performance but has grown into a defining pillar of electronic music. Support comes from Udda: part of the Bass Resistance crew and co-curator of the Vamm series.

Breakfast Club with Refuge Worldwide

Entry by donation
Refuge Worldwide makes a stop at Giri’s Breakfast Club this Sunday. The program includes music, dance, and communal food. Entry by donation.

MaerzMusik

Some events with free entry.
The festival for contemporary music and sound, MaerzMusik returns starting this weekend. This year’s edition serves as both an open artistic forum and laboratory, bringing together composers, artists,and musicians. The programming includes concerts, performances, installations, and talks across multiple venues in the city.

Berlin Chocolate Festival

In Berlin, there’s a festival for practically everything. And this weekend at Komplex, it’s chocolate’s turn. Indulge your cravings, try out some new flavors or take a workshop. There are street vendors in the outside area and producers, and bakeries indoors. Free chocolate gift at entry!
