Hey Berlin! Here’s what’s happening this week October 7-11

We’ve got two big art openings, a club night/exhibition at Haus der Visionäre, a new festival concept by Michelberger, the return of the Festival of Lights and much more!

Christoph Schlingensief: ‘Es ist nicht mehr mein Problem, macht eure Scheiße alleine’

With a name like ‘Es ist nicht mehr mein Problem, macht eure Scheiße alleine’ ('It's no longer my problem, do your own shit.') you can already tell the new opening at Gropius Bau is pushing the boundaries. The exhibition explores Christoph Schlingensief's work, spanning from sensational political actions to radical stage productions as well as both performance and visual art. It's not so much a retrospective as it is a conversation, showing how his artistic strategies interact with each other and challenge the audience into action. For the opening night, there will also be a DJ set by Stella Zekri from 19:30.

Tacita Dean, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, a.o.: ‘Next Door’

Back in the early 2000s, artists still occupied the warehouse space next to Hamburger Bahnhof (some of which is now integrated into the building itself. "Next Door" brings back five artists from that time (Tacita Dean, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Henrik Håkansson and Tomás Saraceno) for a group show spanning new works ranging from film and photography to light, sound and video installations.

Himmel Unter Berlin

The team from Lost Arts Berlin and the Dark Rooms Exhibition is back with another spooky and secretive exhibition. This one comes just in time for the spooky season and I can’t wait to see what’s in store. I’ll post a sneak peek on my TikTok tomorrow so follow me over there!

Leksi Opening

Leksi takes over both Sonnenrauma and Haus der Visionäre as part of Tag der Clubkultur. "Kiss me with your keyboard" combines a club night with an interactive exhibition as well as an online event, connecting clubs from Berlin and beyond including Sonnenraum, Club Ost, ACUD and Panke fromBerlin, Galerie Kurzweil from Darmstadt and Tanzhaus West from Frankfurt.

PEOPLE Festival

People Festival is a new music festival concept, brought to you by the team at Michelberger. For one week, 180 musicians from many genres and backgrounds meet up in the studios at Funkhaus to explore and play. The result is the music festival, which has no pre-set performances or set times. With names like Bendik Giske, Mouse On Mars and Efterklang (to name just a few) this one is sure to be an exceptional experience.

Climate of Fear

Few things could lure a Berlin club goer to Spandau, but Climate of Fear is at the top of the list. The October edition features a stacked line-up of Gabrielle Kwarteng, livwutang, and a tasty B2B from Kikelomo and Kontronatura. If you stay for a long sesh, they've even got food options for you.

5 Years Haderlump

Haderlump celebrates five years of cool looks and hot parties with a party at a secret location. Drop by in the afternoon to check out an exhibition of Sven Marquardt's brand photography and stay through the evening for a party featuring Laure Croft, Kalte Liebe and a top secret B2B.

AL.FESTIVAL.2026

AL.FESTIVAL celebrates their finale on Friday, with a four-stage mini-festival at Festsaal Kreuzberg. Bringing together live concerts, club music, and boundary-pushing performances, the festival focuses on acts from across SWANA and its diasporas. There will also be a DJ set by Refuge Worldwide in the beer garden, plus an art market and food vendors.

Berlin Food Week

Berlin Food Week is already in full swing, bringing an extra spotlight to Berlin's vibrant food scene. The big highlight is the House of Food on Friday and Saturday at Bikini Berlin, where over forty local manufacturers, food brands and small producers are presenting their best products. This one has free entry and is a great way get the vibe of the event, but check the calendar to see all their other events.

Berlin Ramen Festival

There’s nothing more satisfying than a good bowl of noodles on a chilly fall day. There will lots of ramen to try of course, but also Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba, Gyoza, Onigiri, Matcha snacks and much more. Arrive hungry for best results!

Festival of Lights

Once again, it’s time for Berlin to light up the night with spectacular light shows all over the city. The Festival of Lights is back with even more options for the current season. Most of the outdoor projections have free admission but there are also concerts, shows (like Anja Schneider in the Berliner Dom) and tours you can also book.

Female Filmmakers Festival Berlin

Fall is definitely the season of film festivals in Berlin, and this weekend sees a spotlight on female filmmakers. Head by Moviemento to check out their program which features works from women and nonbinary filmmakers from more than 24 countries, across short films, features and documentaries.

Festival of Animation

You can also check out the Festival of Animation this weekend, which showcases films as well as a look at how animation is made. There will be short-film competition, an exhibition and a symposium on stop-motion film.
