  • Where: Fotografiska | Oranienburger Str. 54, 10117 Mitte | Map

Few artists have had as big an impact on contemporary visual culture as Shepard Fairey. From October 16, Fotografiska Berlin presents Photo Synthesis, a major exhibition featuring more than 200 works by the renowned American artist who fuses illustration, activism, and street art into a bold visual language. From the legendary Hope poster to the Obey Giant campaign, Fairey’s imagery has transcended the streets to become a global symbol of resistance and social change.

  • Diane Arbus: Konstellationen

  • Where: Gropius Bau | Niederkirchnerstraße 7, 10963 Mitte | Map

Gropius Bau presents the most comprehensive exhibition of Diane Arbus's work to date, starting Wednesday. The exhibition features 454 prints, with many being shown for the first time. As a resident of NYC whose career peaked from the late 1950s to 1971, her subjects include children, drag performers, nudists, pedestrians, circus performers, and a few celebrities, including Mae West and James Brown. The exhibition follows neither chronological nor thematic grouping. Instead, it invites you to wander freely, discovering the resonances and relationships that emerge between them.

  • Networks of Surrealism

  • When: Opening October 17, 19:00 Exhibition until March 1, 2026

  • Where: Neue Nationalgalerie | Potsdamer Str. 50, 10785 Tiergarten | Map

A century after the first Surrealist Manifesto, the Neue Nationalgalerie presents “Max Ernst to Dorothea Tanning: Networks of Surrealism. Provenances from the Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch Collection”, a groundbreaking exhibition offering fresh insights into Surrealism’s vast web of artists, dealers, and collectors. Featuring works by Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Leonor Fini, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Dorothea Tanning, and many more, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover Surrealism’s enduring power and relevance.

  • Body Archive

  • When: Opening, Wednesday, October 15, 18-21:00

  • Where: Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery | Mercator Hoefe, 2. Innenhof, Potsdamer Str. 77-87, 10785 Mitte | Map

Body Archive features works from Manuela Benaim, Makiko Harris and Emily Pope: “Fragmented body parts, twisting torsos, masked and floating faces. Body Archive brings together three artists whose practices variously explore the female body as site, surface and symbol. Drawing on art history, mythology, and contemporary representations of femininity, the works in this exhibition examine the complexities of selfhood, desire, memory and the performance of identity.”
